Unusual Celebrations

Today we looked at unusual celebrations. The students were shown a couple of photos of each celebration and had to guess:

  • What is the celebration?
  • What happens during the celebration?
  • Why does is happen?
  • Where does it occur?
They then had to combine there answers with others and reach a consensus. The 6 celebrations are below. What do you think your answers would be to these questions?

Lets Celebrate!

This week the students of Room 13 have been exploring celebrations from across the globe that they have never heard about or might not know much about. Ramadan, Chinese New Year, Rio Carnival, Holi, La Tomatina, The Obon Lantern Festival, Dia de los Muertos, Diwali and the Carnival of Venice are all important celebrations for those who participate in them. The students had to research

  • What they are?
  • What happens during the celebration?
  • Who participates?
  • When does it occur?
  • Where does it happen?
  • Why do they celebrate it?
The students then had to present their information in the style of a news report or documentary. These are the finished ones so far...Enjoy!

Today the students of room 13 had to choose how they would display their knowledge and any information they researched about the Commonwealth Games...check it out!

Lets Celebrate!

There are lots of celebrations that we know or have heard about and there are lots of different reasons why they are celebrated. We decided to look at the common reasons why these celebrations are celebrated and group them. Celebrating sports, cultures, religious beliefs and anniversaries were just some of the many reasons.

Let's Celebrate!

Today we started exploring our inquiring into topic, Let's Celebrate! Our Big Idea is that “Participation in family, cultural and community celebrations brings people closer together”. We created a list of the celebrations that we participate in and another list of the other celebrations that we know about, then talked about the reasons we do these celebrations. Here's a wee taster of what we did.
