Today the kapa haka roopu visited the Days Bay Playcentre where we performed a number of items. Then the students interacted with the young kids where it became obvious that kids will be kids, however old they are.
Hi all, welcome to room 13's learning log. This site has been established to provide a log of the learning experiences that occur in the classroom and as another communication tool between home and school.

Bringing inventions and innovations to life...
With so many Year 5/6 students participating today at the Central Zone Athletics we needed a challenge that would involve all the rest of the remaining students. The Rube Goldberg challenge was born.
The task: To put a piece of paper into the rubbish bin. Seemingly a simple task it becomes more complicated when the students start to apply the concepts of a Rube Goldberg machine.
"A Rube Goldberg machine is a contraption, invention, device or apparatus that is deliberately over-engineered or overdone to perform a very simple task in a very complicated fashion, usually including a chain reaction."
The challenge: To put a piece of paper into the rubbish bin in the most complicated manner or from the furtherest distance.
Enjoy watching the results:

Writing explanations
This week in writing we have stolen an idea from room 15 and are creating far fetched Rube Goldberg explanations (like the one above) on "how to complete a simple task" in a complicated manner.
